Hey, I’m Carl..
I don't think I got into HR because I had some grand plan to work in HR.
And I definitely didn't spend my childhood dreaming about organisation charts, TUPE or redundancy consultations.
But from being in operational and HR leadership roles, What I did discover pretty quickly was that I was fascinated by businesses and people. Why some teams work brilliantly and others don't. Why perfectly sensible business decisions can land terribly. And why some leaders bring people with them through change while others lose them along the way - and let's be honest at one time I used to be that manager.
Over the years, I've worked through growth, restructuring, acquisitions, divestments, cost reduction and some pretty significant transformations as well as always being asked to fix a problem - and that's the bit of HR I've always been drawn to.
I've sat with leaders making genuinely difficult decisions, had conversations with people whose roles were disappearing and seen HR teams supporting everyone else while carrying a huge amounts themselves.
But I've also seen what good change can do:
- Teams suddenly have clarity
- Leaders make better decisions
- Costs reduced without having things having to break
- Growth can be more simple and manageable
- People get new opportunities and breathe a sign of relief
- Businesses come out stronger.
That's why people change and transformation matters so much to me.
It's not about protecting people from change because sometimes businesses have to change. It's about changing the right things, understanding the impact on people and doing the hard work to make it stick.
And ultimately, that's why I started CAPhr — to spend more of my time doing the part of HR I genuinely enjoy: getting into those messy, uncertain moments and helping businesses turn change into something that actually works.
Preferably with a bit of humour along the way. Because some days, an organisation chart really doesn't do it for me.
So, if you’re at one of those moments where you know your business needs to evolve, I’d love to have a chat. No jargon. No unnecessary complexity. Just practical support and honest advice from someone who’s been there before. Or take a look at my LinkedIn and website to see the different ways I can make a difference to you, your teams and your business.
Oh and everybody can find change difficult sometimes so if we can have a laugh along the way and make it feel that little less intense, even better.
